Artificial Waterholes for European Bison as Biodiversity Hotspots in Forest Ecosystems: Ecological Effects of Species Reintroduction Activities

چکیده

Despite the growing population of European bison (Bison bonasus), it is necessary to plan reintroduction these animals new areas. Reintroduction often requires improvement natural conditions. Such preparatory activities allow more easily adapt places, but also impact functioning from other taxa. The aim presented study was examine waterholes for on development local populations amphibians and dragonflies (Odonata), as well creation feeding grounds bats. We examined 15 reservoirs in Augustów Forest District located northeastern Poland, which five were built 2013–2014, four semi-natural transformed into 2018, six reservoirs. Dragonflies studied 2021–2022; 2018 2020; bats 2019, 2020. In total, 24 species 10 amphibians, 13 found. results inventory three taxonomic groups using different comparative variants indicate a significant construction biodiversity forest ecosystem. concluded that present better resistance drying out than addition, warm up quickly, supporting conditions amphibians. surface their exposed surroundings are favorable insects (including dragonflies), source food bats, becoming attractive them.

Biodiversity Hotspots and Zones of Ecological Transition

Biodiversity hotspots are areas of high priority for conservation (Reid 1998). They may be selected on the basis of their local species richness, degree of concentration of rare species (Prendergast et al. 1993) or the two measures combined with some assessment of urgency for conservation action (Myers et al. 2000). More targeted approaches identify " hotspots of complementarity " on the basis ...

Assessing Potential Habitat and Carrying Capacity for Reintroduction of Plains Bison (Bison bison bison) in Banff National Park.

Interest in bison (Bison bison, B. bonasus) conservation and restoration continues to grow globally. In Canada, plains bison (B. b. bison) are threatened, occupying less than 0.5% of their former range. The largest threat to their recovery is the lack of habitat in which they are considered compatible with current land uses. Fences and direct management make range expansion by most bison imposs...

Carbon Sequestration in Central European Forest Ecosystems

The forests of Central Europe play an important role in the retention of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Carbon sequestration is rarely the main objective of forest management and is often an underappreciated by-effect of practical forest management, whereas timber production and protection against natural hazards in mountain regions are the main forest functions. Climate change is expected to alte...
